Many children, from underprivileged backgrounds, and their families struggle with basic medical and dietary requirements and lack the understanding of diabetes management.
AFC runs two Diabetes Programmes in Hyderabad and Anantpur. As a part of our Programmes, the participating children and their parents meet the doctors and volunteers on a monthly basis and their progress is monitored closely. They are provided with necessary medication, glucometers and then linked to a support group to discuss and learn how to manage T1 Diabetes.
It is imperative for children with T1 Diabetes to take insulin as a part of their treatment to manage blood sugars. These children/teens are entirely insulin deficient and need insulin injections every day to control their blood sugars.
In Hyderabad, the Sweet Buddy Programme is run through Unicorpus Health Foundation from their polyclinic in Secunderabad. We have about 22 children we are supporting through this programme. At Anantpur, we have tied up with RDT Hospital, Bathallapalli and help out with counselling about 24 children and their parents from neighbouring areas. We have a dedicated team of volunteers that help educate and counsel children living with Diabetes.
At present, there is no known cure for T1Diabetes and these children will need treatment for the rest of their lives. As a part of this programme we envisage bringing these children up to a certain stage where they can entirely understand and manage their blood sugar levels ton their own to lead a normal life just like any other child.
You can make a difference by helping children with T1Diabetes by contributing any amount you deem fit or:
1) Medication for one child for 12 months for Rs. 42,000
2) Medication for one child for 6 months for Rs. 21,000
